Lowering Emissions

The government is committed to lowering the nation's carbon emissions and many local councils are keen to ensure that they do everything in their power to help prevent climate change. There's a lot you can do to. Next time you jump in the car, think “Is this journey really necessary?”. A lot of the time, it won't be!

Drivers heading for the centre of London now have to page a congestion charge, and this move is being considered for other major cities too. Not only does it lower congestion, but this move is set to improve the air quality in the city centre.

Many companies are doing their bit for the environment too! More consideration is being given to the transportation of goods, increasing efficiency and reducing the number of wasteful journeys. HGVs cause a lot of pollution, but they're necessary for the transportation of goods. Goods are now being packaged in such a way that more can be transported at once, reducing the number of journeys required.

Also, some firms that use HGVs are recycling. Scania parts and components for other trucks can be bought from salvage yards rather than having to buy new ones. Also, older vehicles are being salvaged for their components. There's not point in wasting perfectly good Scania parts of an old vehicle, they should be recycled rather than thrown away.
